Sales Manager

LOCATION: Coventry, England, UK

TYPE: 7 month fixed term contract

  • To proactively deliver the show strategy across new and existing business
  • Ensure the campaign strategy and sales plan is delivered on target and budget and activity targets (outbound call volumes and face-to-face meetings) are met
  • Support junior sales staff in developing new revenues streams and creative and complex sales such as sponsorship
  • Visit and canvas at competitor and industry events and develop a systematic understanding of and monitoring of competitors
  • With the Group Show Manager run and manage the rebook process and rebook team
  • Manage and update the prospect database
  • Foster positive and professional relationships with key suppliers, associations, media and commercial partners


  • Regularly reconcile sales ledger, accounting ledgers and CRM sales logs
  • Provide a monthly report and forecast on show revenues, contribution, manpower and actions that are being taken for the shows to achieve budget

General Management and Relationships

  • Day to day management of the sales team especially ensuring the team is fully briefed and equipped at the start of each power hour
  • Coach and develop the team in all aspects of their roles, creating transition map to expanded roles and promotion where appropriate
  • Foster positive and professional relationships with key suppliers, associations, media and commercial partners

Operations and Marketing

  • Work with the operations team to execute the operations strategy that meets/comes in under budget while ensuring high levels of exhibitor and delegate experiences and production values are maintained
  • Manage selected key industry partnerships in conjunction with the Group Show Manager
  • With the Group Show Manager develop an exhibitor campaign strategy including vertical and horizontal activity
  • Ensure that the exhibitor marketing strategy is delivered, monitored and analysed

  • Manage the event floor plan


  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Experience within an exhibition sales role (a minimum of 3 years)
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Awareness of exhibition production (desirable)
  • Experience of growing and developing new markets and products (desirable)
  • Tele-sales, media sales or exhibition background (desirable)
  • Relevant industry knowledge (desirable)
  • Understating of event cycle (desirable)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent stakeholder management and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working within fast paced environments
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask
  • Strong administrative skills
  • Numerate
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills 
  • Able to work to tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Able to work independently and as part of a wider team
  • People management experience – leading teams, managing performance and conduct, training and effectively delegating with the ability to roll your sleeves up when necessary
  • Proactive and able to utilise initiative
  • Experience effectively managing internal stakeholders and external customers
  • Strong IT skills and systems management e.g., Microsoft Office programmes
