Digital Health Unplugged Shortlisted for Best Podcast at MJA Awards 2026
Produced by the Digital Health team, Digital Health Unplugged explores the latest issues and developments shaping health technology and NHS IT. The shortlisted episode The Forgotten Patients marked its first documentary-style investigation, with editor Tammy Lovell and reporter Jordan Sollof examining the human impact of the NHS’s shift towards increasingly digital healthcare.
Run by the Medical Journalists’ Association, the UK’s largest body of professional health and medical writers, editors and broadcasters, the annual awards recognise excellence in health and medical journalism and are regarded by the MJA as one of the industry’s highest accolades. The nomination places Tammy, Jordan, and sound engineer Matt Hill alongside some of the UK’s leading health and science journalists in the MJA Awards’ Podcast category.
The Forgotten Patients asks an important question: as more NHS services move online, is digital transformation improving access for everyone, or creating new barriers for some of the people who rely on healthcare most?
Beginning with the experience of a patient struggling to navigate an increasingly digital system, the episode brings together patient stories and perspectives from organisations including The King’s Fund, The Patients Association, Digital Poverty Alliance and Good Things Foundation. It explores how factors including affordability, digital skills, accessibility and service design can contribute to digital exclusion.
'We're over the moon to have been shortlisted for best podcast at the Medical Journalists' Association Awards, which is like the Oscars of health journalism', said Jordan Sollof. 'A countless number of hours was spent planning and putting this episode together. It wouldn't have happened without the tireless work of editor Tammy, who was the driving force behind it all, and sound engineer Matt, so thank you to them! We're looking forward to attending the awards ceremony next month, where we'll be up against the Economist and BBC Radio 4!'
A huge congratulations to Tammy, Jordan, Matt and the Digital Health team. The winners will be announced at the MJA Awards ceremony on 22 September 2026.
