Learning Technologies London 2022 gathered learning professionals from around the world, the first of the big L&D sector events to return in Europe after the pandemic.
Thousands of learning professionals attended Learning Technologies 2022, the first of the big L&D events to return after the pandemic and it didn't disappoint.

There was a vibrant atmosphere, summed up well by 5App’s Aby Reynolds: “It’s exciting to come together and see what creative solutions by having a conversation and collaborating we can come up with. This year it's even more special because it was really needed.”

Event organiser, Mark Penton: “It was clear, across the event, how delighted the community was at being back together, face-to-face, in person, at the biggest and most important workplace learning event in the world.”

The event covered all that is important in workplace learning following the magnitude of change felt across the sector. It provided strategies to help learning professionals with hybrid working, the focus on cultural values, shifts to learning in the flow of work, mental health and wellbeing, measurement, data, performance, leadership, personalisation, employee experience and more.

Donald H Taylor reflecting on Learning Technologies 2022: “This is an opportunity for learning and development. Our challenge for the twelve months ahead, is to stop talking about how we do it and start talking about why we do it. Why are we doing this? To support the aims of the organisation. It’s a big challenge but this is the moment for it.”

What Donald means here is for learning and development to identify where it can have the most impact to deliver for their organisation; to meet the aims of the business. And to worry less about face-to-face versus digital arguments or modality discussions before the end goal is established. This might usually have a performance, cultural or behavioural outcome, or some other business-focussed goal. The goal is never to deliver something digitally, or not. So don't let it cloud our vision before learning and development and the business are talking in the same language.

This was the overwhelming focus of Learning Technologies 2022 in one form or another.

Learning Technologies 2022 took place on 4-5 May 2022, London ExCeL #LT22UK. Learning Technologies returns to ExCeL for the follow-on Autumn Forum on 13 October 2022 and returns again in 2023 on 3-4 May
